Informed Making: Hand-carved Stamps and the History of Block Printing In-Person
Learn about the 4,000 year old history of block printing and how printed textiles and other prints were made before the invention of the printing press. In this workshop you'll get the opportunity to learn how to make your own printing block by hand-craving a small rubber stamp using different lino-carving tools. Participants can either draw a design by hand or print a design that can be transferred onto the block. Hand-carving can be time-intensive depending on the complexity of the design, participants may not finish during the workshop but will be welcome to come back to the lab anytime after the workshop to complete their stamp. No experience is necessary, all materials will be provided.
